As a teacher, my goal is always to equip my students with skills and background to help them with the challenges they face at that point in their lives. I work to create a welcoming classroom that encourages all students to speak up about learning needs and issues. I've studied science across different areas of biology, and love mapping how our DNA and environment drive changes in our lives. I am trained in genetics, evolution, and field biology, but enjoy instructing about scientific thought more generally. Students today face a crossroads where technology, especially genetic technology, is becoming a larger part of our lives -- while at the same scientists face more skepticism. My goal in the engagement course is develop student ability to face this conflict critically, and build their skills as effective and responsible researchers.
