EGMT 1510: Creative Play

Play is a meaningful part of the artistic process. This course will investigate how artists generate their work, and how creative problem-solving benefits us. The class will engage with simple materials to create drawing, photographic work and sculptural objects, reflecting on how art making and performative projects open new ways of thinking. Each week we will study an artist and their process, such as the meditative drawings of Agnes Martin or the posters of Felix Gonzalez Torres. Students will be challenged to create a project that responds to each artist’s method, and we will reflect on what is gained from that way of thinking.
