Libby Taylor
Academic Advising Dean
I am a European historian who has taught classes ranging from Early Modern Europe to LGBT+ European History, History of Violence, European Nationalisms and many more. My current research focuses on HBCUs, educational equity, academic success, retention and the experience of historically marginalized students within the space of higher education institutions. Before working at UVA I worked at Miles College, a HBCU in the greater Birmingham, AL area as the Director of Academic Success and Assistant History Professor. While completing my PhD at Louisiana State University I served as the Supplemental Instruction Coordinator for the Center for Academic Success. As a historian and higher education professional, I am interested in how history is utilized and perceived in our current society, as well as how we determine which narratives are more worthwhile than others. I discovered my passion for working for higher education while completing my own studies and hope to inspire and instill in others an excitement for learning and curiosity about the world.
