Poetry is a creative endeavor. For me, writing poetry offers solace and a way to explore dimensions beyond my scientific realm. Influenced by my spouse, a poet by training, I have informally penned some poetic lines over the years. More recently, I have been increasingly drawn to poetry, inspired by its innovation and creative freedom. Writing poems is, in many ways, a scientific process enriched by musicality. I want to share this academic and artistic journey within a liberal arts education setting. What makes this experience unique is its engagement with the humanities, science, society, and the environment. The course's interdisciplinary nature will enrich students’ academic residential experience while deepening their social awareness. By designing the course to empower students as active stakeholders, I want to instill a culture of learning, collaboration, and creativity through the study of interdisciplinary poetic expressions. Students will begin by exploring how diverse poets craft their work. They will compose poems first as a team and then individually. These collaborative sessions will help students see the interdisciplinary nature of poetic expression while offering opportunities for constructive peer feedback.
