Dinko Pocanic
Professor of Physics
Growing up, I was passionate about literature, languages, music, history, mathematics and science, and enjoyed them all. Eventually, I settled on science for my university studies, and physics became my lifelong professional pursuit. The focus of my research has been on experimental studies in nuclear and elementary particle physics. However, since joining the University of Virginia faculty, I have found great pleasure in engaging with students in the classroom and lab setting, and facilitating their learning. Witnessing the students' minds opening to, and gradually absorbing, brand new concepts and insights has provided the greatest source of my professional satisfaction. As a College Fellow, my goal is to bring closer to the students who recently entered UVA, the wondrous and fascinating world of modern science, physics in particular, that, over the past century, has radically changed our view of the world and the universe.
