Cécile Rey

Associate Professor, General Faculty (French)

My work as a scholar of French linguistics is shaped by a longstanding interest in how language reflects identity, community, and belonging. Growing up and studying across different linguistic and cultural contexts, I became attuned to the ways languages coexist, evolve, and carry meaning beyond grammar. This perspective informs both my research on language contact and minority languages, such as Gallo in Brittany, and my teaching. In the classroom, I strive to create inclusive, student-centered spaces where language is experienced as a tool for connection and discovery. I emphasize communication, intercultural awareness, and reflective learning, often integrating digital tools and immersive approaches. Through my work with beginning learners and study abroad students, I aim to help students build confidence and see themselves as participants in multilingual, global communities.
