Associate Professor
I am a passionate educator and scholar who prioritizes students voices, critical thinking, and meaningful engagement. With a deep belief in the power of education to transform both individuals and communities, I design learning experiences that foster curiosity, dialogue, and active learning and participation. I am especially passionate about understanding people and societies. Therefore, I utilize storytelling, songs, poetry, and film in teaching literatures and cultures of Africa and Africans. I believe in the power of stories, both personal and collective, to open minds and create deeper understanding across cultures. I like to encourage students to critically analyze these narratives and explore diverse ways of knowing, always emphasizing reciprocal learning when engaging local communities as a way to expand perspectives and connect learning to lived experience. Whether in the classroom or the community, I inspire students to think deeply, act ethically, and engage as thoughtful global citizens.
