EGMT 1540: Is Utopia Possible?

What prevents us from creating a more perfect society? How can we overcome those obstacles? What is your role in manifesting the kinds of change you wish to see in the world? This course takes up these questions as a foundation for our lives as ethical beings. We will study thinkers and artists throughout history who wrestled with the promise of an ideal society—utopia—and we will consider how they do or do not provide sufficient guidance for solving problems in the present. As a cohort, we will work together to clarify our already-existing ethics, our dreams of who we want to become and the world we want to create, and how we can get there together.
