EGMT 1530: Cinematic Crossings

What does it mean to live in a pluralistic world? In this course, we will explore films from and about Latin America by Latin American screenwriters and directors to expand our understanding of this culturally diverse region comprising more than twenty countries and territories. As we analyze topics such as history, globalization, politics, immigration, memory, race, and gender in these films, we will consider how people navigate and adapt to different social and historical situations that they have to live in. This course will enable you to recognize the differences between Latin American communities and connect those differences to your own culture and life experiences. Through this cinematographic encounter, you will begin to embrace, perceive, and reflect on the cultural complexities of Latin America with deeper knowledge and understanding.
