EGMT 1520: Analyzing Inequality

When you hear claims about social inequality, how do you evaluate them? How would you go about studying the nature, causes, experiences, or effects of inequality? In this course, we will explore common ways to gather and use empirical evidence to analyze inequality in the U.S. We will discuss research from the social sciences about inequalities based on race, class, and gender and think about the process used to produce those studies. We also will engage in interactive activities to stimulate critical thinking and to practice parts of the research process. This course will offer you experiences to more carefully evaluate claims you hear about inequality and to enhance your engagement with any empirical research you encounter in your academic work, your future career, or your everyday life.
